Quincy Christmas Parade Wrap-up

Quincy Christmas Parade Wrap-up
The weather was supposed to remain fairly good with precipitation not to arrive until late in the day so twenty of South Shore Corvette Club's Corvettes made their way to the staging area in Quincy. Lo and behold, the forecasters were wrong, and the drizzle and then freezing rain turning into freezing snow came in early, even before the parade began. That didn't deter our members, however, and all twenty Corvettes fell into line and the parade began. Weymouth Day Parade Wrap-up

Weymouth Day Parade Wrap-up
South Shore Corvette Club came through again. Twelve Corvettes represented our club in the Weymouth Veterans Day Parade, and we covered 40 years of Vettes with Terry Partridge's 1969 up to Bill Casey's 2009 ZO6. The day was bright and crisp, and the spectators were lined up to greet us, as usual.  Boy, do they like those Corvettes!   Read More...

November Trivia Question

Trivia Contest
After last months' easy question, the Trivia Question Committee is again digging deep into the esoterica of Corvette knowledge and lore. There have been names and terms used to describe Corvettes and various features of the Corvette. Last month we gave you the term to define. This month we are looking for the item. What does the word "porcupine" describe on a Corvette and most important why?

October Meeting Wrap-up

October Business Meeting Wrap-up
We had a stellar turnout for the last official meeting of the year. It was Pot-Luck night and no one went home hungry. The culinary creativity of the members was apparent in the delicious spread. Thank you to all the chefs.

After dinner, we had our election and the vote was unanimous. For 2009, Terry Partridge will continue at the helm as president. Steve Boyajian will assist as Vice President. Newly elected, Elaine Kemp will return to the position of Secretary after a two year absence. Jim Johnson will remain as Treasurer. Rounding out the board is Joe Amante, Public Relations; Eileen Casey, Officer at Large; Bill Wenzel, Web Master. We would like to thank retiring board member Joe Teamer for an outstanding term as Secretary.

October Trivia

October Trivia Answer
We lowered the bar last month to see if we could entice more members to participate. The Trivia Question Commitee felt the question was very easy and we did get more participants. The Question: "What does SWC stand for?" See... it is easy. Extra credit... What was the only year for a SWC? The Answer: A picture is worth a 1000 words.

The answer was Split Window Coupe. Extra credit was 1963, the one and only year. Correct answers were submitted by Dwight Burns, Dennis Grant, Mike Parros, Elaine Kemp and Doug Buchanan. Check the sidebar on the right for the November question. Thanks to all that participated.

Bug Juice Rally Wrap-up

Bug Juice Rally Wrap-up
Carol Santacross certainly outdid herself with this year's Bug Juice Rally. And she even found a "Corvette Drive" in Manomet! When would that ever happen again?
The clues were there...but some of the answers were missed by some of the rally attendees. The trivia questions were tough for some, less tough for others.  And how many of us were able to find all the items on Carol's scavenger list? And don't forget the word scramble. Did anyone get them all?

Bug JuiceRally

Bug Juice Rally
It's hard to believe that a year has past since the last Bug Juice Rally. Carol Santacross has again taken the reins to plan and coordinate this year's event. Carol promises perfect weather although this will be a rain or shine event. If you are new to the SSCC or new to the Bug Juice Rally it is a day of fun and laughter. The BJR is not a race. It is a cross between a scavenger hunt, a mystery tour and a trivia contest. Each Vette needs to have a driver and a navigator. Read More...

September Trivia

September Trivia Question
Question: If you are currently breathing, you have seen an ad for Verizon FiOS. Well, Corvette used some of this technology at one time. The question is "What year was a component of FiOS technology used in a Corvette and what was it used for?"
Answer: FiOS is Verizon's name for fiber optics. They use it to bring the internet and TV into your home. Fiber optic cable transmits light. So instead of electrical pulses traveling through a wire, light pulses travel through the fibers. In 1968, Corvette introduced a light monitoring system that showed the driver if all the lights were working. The light from the headlights, turn signals, brake lights etc. was transmitted through the fiber optic cables to the center console. Very cool! Members submitting correct answers this month were Doug Buchanan, Dennis Grant and Ron Casciato. Congratulations and thanks for participating.
The October Trivia question is in the sidebar to the right.

Vettes to Vets Wrap-up

Vettes to Vets Wrap-up
The weather could have been worse, it could have rained continuously. But it didn't matter. The event was too important to let a little rain bother us. The day started out at our usual meeting place, Building 19, with twelve brave SSCC Vettes and close to 20 members. Our ride up to Billerica was damp and misty. Upon arrival at the Marriot Hotel in Billerica, we were graciously and enthusiastically greeted by our friends from the North Shore Corvette Club, the sponsors of the event. Over 200 Corvettes were on hand to show support for our disabled veterans. We had a short caravan from the hotel to the Bedford Veteran's Hospital. The rain stopped just as we arrived on the hospital grounds and gave us a chance to dry off our Vettes and ourselves. All of our members brought donations of much needed items for the veterans at the hospital. There was an emotional presentation of the Colors by the National Guard, the singing of the National Anthem followed by a Pledge of Allegiance.
Food was provided along with musical entertainment.
SSCC member Tom Meehan was interviewed by Fox News and you can see the clip here, right on the SSCC website. (A new addition to the SSCC website. You will need to have QuickTime installed on your computer to view this clip.) There are more photos here. We would like to thank all the SSCC members that participated in the very worthwhile event. Thanks to Elaine Kemp and Tom Meehan for photos of the event.

September Meeting Wrap-up

September Meeting Wrap-up
We had a great turnout for the September meeting. The big item on the agenda was the nomination of officers. We were all sorry to hear from Joe Teamer that he would not seek re-election. Joe has been a valuable asset to the Board and has proven to be an exceptional Secretary. His timely emails have kept all of the members alerted to the happenings of the SSCC and local and national Corvette related events. All of the members wold like to thank Joe for his great contribution to the club.

The slate that will be presented for ratification in October is: Terry Partridge, President; Steve Boyajian, Vice President; Elaine Kemp, Secretary; Jim Johnson, Treasurer; Joe Amante, Public Relations; Eileen Casey, Officer at Large; Bill Wenzel, Web Master.

We would like to have a
Fall Foliage Tour and are looking for a destination. Any member that would like to take the reins and guide us can contact any officer.

Carol Santacross presented the details for the second running of the
Bug Juice Rally. Those of us that participated last year are eagerly awaiting this years version. Carol promised an easier course, better directions, more fun and marriage counseling at the end of the rally. The Bug Juice Rally is not a race. It is not even timed. What determines the winner is correct answers to questions that can only be know if you follow the scenic route that is describe in the directions. There is also a scavenger hunt component to the rally that helps you gain extra points. This is a fun event for you, your navigator and your Corvette.

We would like to again thank
Marylou's for the donation of the "Best Coffee in Town" with all the fixin's.

Vettes to Vets

 Vettes to Vets
This is a reminder about an important and very worthwhile event...the "Vettes to Vets" pilgrimage to the Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA.  If you haven't gone before, you'll feel really good if you go this year. Our veterans have done so much to maintain our freedom, and they should not be forgotten. Mark the date of September 28th in your calendar, and start collecting some of the articles these men and women need.
Click
here for more information. We will meet at the Building 19 parking lot at 9:00 am with a 9:15 liftoff. This is a "not to be missed" event with an extremely worthy cause. See you on the 28th. This is a Rain or Shine event.

Monthly Meeting

Monthly Meeting
Mark your calendars for September 25th. We return to the Weymouth Elks at 7:00. We will be having Marylou's coffee and snacks. There are a number of items on the agenda. September is the month when we open the floor to nominations for officers. We encourage all members to consider running for office.

The Recognition Dinner will be held at the Monponsett Inn in Halifax in November 15, 2008. It will be a buffet and the menu will be announced at the next meeting. The cost is $35.00/couple so bring your checkbook.

We are planning a Fall Foliage Cruise with a destination of Lakeville to see the Hallamore Clydesdales. This should be a very scenic cruise and one to enjoy our cars and camaraderie. The proposed dates are Oct. 5 with a rain date of Oct. 12. We need someone to lead the event and we are looking for a volunteer.

Carol Santacross has planned another great Bug Juice Rally. The event is scheduled for Oct. 19 and we'll meet at 10 AM at the Totem Pole Exit 5 off Rt 3 south in the parking lot behind MacDonald's in the rest area.  Drivers and navigators meeting at 10:15, first car out at 10:30 Sharp!. We will have more information at the meeting. You can call her at 781 934-6455. Please let her know if you plan to attend so she can print sufficient directions and she also needs a head count for the restaurant. Carol will give full details at the meeting.

Our annual Schooner Brunch is being lead again by Tom Hayes on Oct 26. Cars and food?  There's a novel idea.  Can't wait!  More details at the meeting.

Getaway Weekend Wrap-up

Fall Getaway Wrap-up

When you put friends, food, Corvettes and a beautiful setting together how can you miss. That's what we had again this year at our annual Getaway Weekend. The Meadowmere was as nice as we remembered, with wonderful accommodations and a very helpful and attentive staff.

Bill and Eileen Casey showed up in their gorgeous new 2009 black/black Z06. There was a small private ceremony where they were inducted into the SSCC Black Corvette Chapter, Norwell Branch. Happy waxing... and washing... and waxing....

The weekend had it's moments. A dead battery here, an engine fire there, a bad alternator over there, and another dead battery over there. But nothing was serious and everyone arrived and made it home safely. There are more photos
here. We would like to thank Elaine Kemp for making the initial contact with the Meadowmere, Joe Amante for coordinating all aspects of the event and everyone else that put in time making this another great SSCC outing.

July Trivial Question

The July Trivia Question: What first made it's appearance on the Corvette in 1956, partially disappeared midway through the C5 model run and was gone completely on the C6?

This question was correctly answered by Russ Erikson and Elaine Kemp. The correct answer is outside door key cylinder lock. The 1953, '54 and '55 Corvettes did not have outside key cylinders or handles. In 2000, the passenger side door lock disappeared. With the introduction of the C6, key cylinders are again gone from both doors. It's just like 1953

July Meeting Meeting Wrap-up

July Meeting Meeting Wrap-up
The July 31st meeting was held at Bill and Eileen Casey's home in Norwell. We had a huge turnout and everyone had plenty to eat. There were many conversations and friends caught up on what everyone was doing for the summer. Terry brought the meeting o order and we took a moment to reflect on the passing of our fellow member, Rich Bertrand. New member introductions were made. Thank you all for the great turnout and a huge thank you to Bill and Eileen for graciously hosting the meeting. See you all next month. There are more photos of our July meeting here.

Carlisle Wrap-up

Carlisle Wrap-up
SSCC was well represented in Carlisle, PA for the annual Corvettes of Carlisle. If you have never been, it is the mecca of Corvettedom. There are acres and acres of everything Corvette. New parts, old parts, rusty parts, clean parts, waxes, buffers, zip ties, tires, exhausts, wheels, lifts, shirts and even sox. Yes, sox. And we can't forget the people. There are tens of thousands Corvette fanatics. And they all bring their Corvettes. I saw a Corvette hearse pulling a casket trailer. Even I can't make this up.. And heat, Carlisle is also know for heat. This year it was not as stifling as in years past. And the humidity was below 100 percent. So all in all, 2008 was a great year to go to Carlisle. We hope to see more members make the trip next year.

August Meeting Wrap-up

August Meeting–a Great Time
The evening was just right for our August meeting at Steve and Melissa Boyajian's home. We had a great turnout and everyone had plenty of pizza, salad and desert. We would all like to thank Steve and Melissa for their hospitality. Terry brought the business part of the meeting to order and we heard about the trip to Carlisle. Seventeen members went for the weekend. We were also alerted by Elaine Kemp about the perils of not displaying a front plate. Also the details of the Vettes to Vets were discussed as was the remaining parade schedule. We will be continuing Cruise Night until the end of September.
Eileen Casey did a brisk business with the SSCC Store. If you want any item contact her
here. Your item will be custom made if it is not in stock.

July Trivia Contest

Trivia Contest
Since last month was a C6 question and it got a big response, here is a question that crosses multiple ages, C1, C5, C6. Put on the thinking caps!

What first made it's appearance on the Corvette in 1956, partially disappeared midway through the C5 model run and was gone completely on the C6?

This question was correctly answered by Russ Erikson and Elaine Kemp. The correct answer is outside door key cylinder lock. The 1953, '54 and '55 Corvettes did not have outside key cylinders or handles. In 2000, the passenger side door lock disappeared. With the introduction of the C6, key cylinders are again gone from both doors. Just like 1953.

Corvette Wins at Lime Rock

Corvette Wins at Lime Rock
The Corvette factory team came in 1st and 2nd in the GT1 class at the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix held at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville CT.
We went and participated in the Corvette Corral. Chevrolet sponsors the Corral at many of the ALMS races. More than 175 Vettes were present. On display at the Corral was a 2009 ZR1, a Will Cooksley ZO6 and an Indy Pace Car.

When race began we had a wonderful view of turn 1, aka "Big Bend." No matter where you stood around the course, you could tell when the mighty 427 powered C6R's were about to appear. The 7 liter V8 engines sing with an unmistakable all American roar. It is true music to a Corvette lover's ears.

The following is quoted from americanlemans.com: Corvette Racing's Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen won in GT1, coming from nearly a full lap back to beat the hard-luck duo of Corvette mates Olivier Beretta and Oliver Gavin. The duo won for the fourth time in five races and third time in a row. Each was victorious at Lime Rock for the first time.

"There was a time at the first caution where we got caught out behind the pace car. But then situations arose where we could get a splash at the end and get close again," O'Connell said. "It was a fun and exciting moment. I know people think we aren't racing anyone, but we are really going hard. We are definitely pushing as hard as we can. Things went our way this weekend."

"I was absolutely on par with the other car," Magnussen added. "When we started to race the other car, traffic played a big role. The tarmac here is very good and the Michelins were just as fast at the beginning as they were at the end."

O'Connell pitted late from the lead for a splash of cellulosic E85 and entered the track side-by-side with Beretta, who went wide and slightly off the track as O'Connell kept the lead.

Beretta eventually had to park his Corvette when the gearbox lost oil. As a result, O'Connell and Magnussen are 12 points up on their teammates for the class championship. It's a stark contrast to last season when the duo won just three times and were second in the title chase.

"In the races last year, something silly always went wrong, just little things," O'Connell said. "The funny thing is that racing always goes in cycles. Our never-say-die attitude kept us in the race. We lost nearly a lap and sometimes you quit before knowing what things can happen. You have to attack every single lap."

July Meeting–it's a cookout!

The July 31st meeting will be held at Bill and Eileen Casey's home in Norwell. There is plenty of parking so bring your Corvette along with your appetite. Food will be provided, BYOB. Contact Eileen by phone or email if you are coming. We need to get a count so we do not run out of food. 781-659-1513/email here. In case of rain, the meeting will be held at the Elks as usual.

Rich Bertrand

Rich Bertrand
South Shore Corvette Club stepped up and did the Club proud with the turnout for our fallen comrade, Rich Bertrand's, wake and funeral. Our members really proved just how our club rises to each occasion. Rich's wife and family were overwhelmed when all the blue SSCC shirts arrived at the wake. They had no idea of how well liked Rich was with our members, and they constantly thanked us for coming.  On the day of Rich's funeral, 10 of our club Corvettes arrived to escort Rich to the church. It was very moving to see Rich's "Ruby Elaine" at the front of the line and the other 10 Corvettes following. Great job, SSCC.

Garden Party Wrap-up

Garden Party Wrap-up
We couldn't have asked for a better day. We all met at the Rockland Park & Ride for a cruise guided by Jim Johnson through the back roads of Hull, Hingham and Cohasset. The views from Atlantic Avenue and Jerusalem Road were spectacular. We finished up at Jim's home in Hanover. As always, Jim's back yard was spectacular. The food was plentiful and delicious.

We had new members in attendance, Larry Vincent with his burgundy 454 '73 coupe and Gerry and Frank Hill with their '05 black coupe.
There are more photos

July 4th Parades

We had a terrific turnout for the Randolph and Stoughton parades. We were well received by the crowds. Lots of smiling faces. With our new windshield banners, everyone now knows the South Shore Corvette Club by name. We even got a nice write up in the Patriot Ledger. We had a scare with the weather and all the tops went up, but by parade time the rain had cleared and the tops came down, the flags went up and we were off the a cheering crowd.

After the Randolph parade we all went to the Outback Steakhouse for dinner and and evening of socializing.

Stoughton, MA Reported by Elaine Kemp
What a great response we had for our last-minute invitation to participate in the Stoughton 4th of July parade.  Yes, we had to scramble a bit to obtain enough Corvettes to make a good impression, but our SSCC folks came through!  Ten Corvettes participated in our introduction to the Town of Stoughton's annual parade on the afternoon of the 4th, and they loved us!!
We drove single file along the parade route so our ten Vettes looked like 20!  Not only that, but quite a few of the people who were watching the parade had seen us in the Randolph parade the night before so we had our own fan club cheering us on.  It was a great time, and I want to thank all SSCC members who took the time out of this special holiday to make our first parade in Stoughton such a nice one! More pictures can be seen here for the Randolph parade and here for the Stoughton parade.

ALMS Racing at Lime Rock Park

Attention Corvette Racing fans. The ALMS race will be at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville CT. Chevrolet will have a Corvette Coral at the track that offers Corvette owners special parking, meals and displays. A group of members showed interest in going out Saturday July 12th for the race. We will meet at the Building 19 parking lot at 7:30 am and leave at 7:45. We will stop at Joe's American Bar and Grill to pick up any members living closer to that stop. Be there at 8:00 am as we will have a very short stop.

If you are planning to attend, you will need to contact Lime Rock Park to purchase tickets. Get tickets for the Corvette Coral. It is best to get the tickets that include lunch, at $85.00 per person. Tickets include Corvette Coral parking, Corvette hospitality tent admission, pit pass and of course viewing the race. If you have never been to Lime Rock, it is a beautiful track with lawn seating. There are no bleachers. Bring your chairs or a picnic blanket to enjoy the race. This is rain or shine event.

Cape Cod Corvette Club Cruise Night

Cape Cod Corvette Club Cruise Night
Thursday July 10th we will be meeting at Building 19 in Weymouth for a cruise down to Wareham to Robertson Chevrolet for the Cape Cod Corvette Club Cruise Night. Meet at 5:15 and we will leave at 5:30 and head to the Totem poll rest stop on Route 3. We should arrive at the Totem Poll about 6:00. After picking up our southerly members, we will then proceed down to Wareham. Robertson Chevrolet is located at 3131 Cranbury Highway, Wareham, MA. We would like to see a big turnout to show support for the CCCC from their friends at SSCC.

Rich Bertrand passed away

Very Sad News
It is with great sadness that I need to report the passing of one of our fellow members. Rich Bertrand passed away suddenly on Monday, July 7, 2008. Rich participated in the Randolph parade with the club on Thursday evening. We always were happy to see Rich and his 40th Anniversary convertible. He was a constant contributor to the photo albums on the web site. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Liz and his children. Visiting hours are 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the Mortimer Peck Funeral Home at 516 Washington Street in Braintree. The funeral service is Saturday July 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the South Congregational Church, 1075 Washington Street, South Braintree.

Shakedown 2008 Wrapup

Shakedown Cruise 2008–Success

Shakedown Cruise-Newport, RI

"Worth the wait..." that was the opinion of everyone that went on the 2008 Shakedown Cruise. Because of one of the wettest springs in memory, we had to postpone the May 4th event. The weather gods were on our side for the new date. We met at the usual Building 19 launch location with clear, blue skies. About 15 SSCC Vettes were present. Due to a conflict, our original leader, Jack Donnelly had to relinquish his duties. Joe Teamer and Rodney Collymore stepped up and did a great job of guiding us to Newport.

Our next stop was the service plaza on Route 24. Waiting for us were over 30 Corvettes from Eastern Mass CC and Corvettes United and more SSCC members. It was an impressive sight. After lots of picture taking, checking out all the Vettes and talking with the assembled crowd, we were off the our third meeting place.

We arrived at the Fall River Plaza to fine more than twenty Corvettes from the Cape Cod CC. We spent time chatting and took a group picture before departing on our last leg to Newport. You can download a high resolution copy of the photo
here.
Joe Teamer kept the speed reasonable for the long line of Vettes and we exited the highway in Tiverton to meander our way on scenic roads, past fabulous homes and beautiful vistas. Joe was always aware of the Corvettes behind him and he stopped anytime we had a possibility of loosing someone. Our final stop was the Atlantic Beach Club for a scrumptious brunch. Many members toured the mansions, shopped and visited the wineries.
You can see more pictures
here. If you have pictures you would like to contribute to the album, email them using the link at the bottom of any page.

Ron's Restoration

The weather was both good and bad. We met at Building 19 in a slow drizzle. Not the best of days for a ride to Fitchburg. Only Tom Meehan was brave enough to bring his Vette. We car pooled and headed for Joe's in Dedham, our next stop. The sky was still dark, but blue was showing in the west. In all, 13 of use made the trip. As we closed in on Fitchburg, the weather cleared. It was the beginning of an amazing day.
"Awesone... fantastic.... impressive.... unbelievable...." were the words heard as we toured Ron's Restorations. Ron Bunnell and his staff were the most gracious hosts.
Ron gave us an overview of his shop, their procedures, answered hundreds of questions and even provided us with lunch.
As we all explored his shop, we saw Corvettes in every stage of restoration, solid axles, midyears, and sharks. We learned that Ron is expanding into C5 and C6 performance upgrades along with his traditional restoration business.
After lunch and more poking around the shop we had to say our thanks and goodbyes. All of us that want on the trip wish to extend our sincerest thanks to Ron and his staff for a day none of us will forget. Check here to find out more about Ron's Restorations and here for more pictures.

Car Wash tour and Show

“Boys & Girls Club” of Marshfield Display and Car Wash Tour
Carol Santacross must have an in with the weather gods. After a spring of washouts, the display at the Marshfield Briteway Car Wash was both a meteorological and monetary success. The SSCC filled every available space to give car wash visitors a chance to see an array of beautiful Corvettes. Paul Vercollone and his staff organized the event along with Carol. Paul donated part of the proceeds from every wash done on Sunday to the Boys' and Girls' Club of Marshfield. This will help the club purchase a defibrillator.
We were given a private tour and explanation of both the touch-less car wash and the car wash tunnel. Paul explained the ins and outs of the car wash industry to us and answered many questions.

As a thank you to the club, Paul provided two Red Sox tickets to the club. We raffled them off with over $200 going the the Boys and Girls Club.
Afterwards, we drove over to the Luck Dawg restaurant in Pembroke. The Lucky Dawg is owned by SSCC Treasurer Jim Johnson's brother. We all sat down for more conversation and good food. With the weather still being perfect we all headed home after an enjoyable day. Thanks to Carol for putting together an enjoyable and valuable SSCC event. More pictures are
here.

May Trivia Question

What do the following Corvette colors have in common? Mosport Green, Goodwood Green, Silverstone Silver and Bridgehampton Blue.

We have two WINNERS!
Dennis Grant and Russ Erikson got it correct. We could have also added Sebring Silver, Daytona Blue, Riverside Red, Laguna Gray, Glen Green, Mille Miglia Red, Elkhart Green, Brands Hatch Green, Monza Red, Daytona Yellow, Mulsanne Blue (this one's a stretch, oops! bad pun), Monaco Orange, LeMans Blue, Elkhart Blue, Nassau Blue, Laguna Blue, Goodwood Yellow, and Daytona Sunset Orange.
The colors were named after race tracks. Mosport is in Canada. You can learn about it
here. Goodwood is a racetrack about 60 miles from London. Info about is can be found here. Another British race track is Silverstone. It is still an active track hosting a Formula 1 race each year. More info here. Last but not least is Bridgehampton. Unfortunately, this great track has been converted to a golf course. It is located on Long Island near Sag Harbor. You can read about its history here.
As you can see, Corvette has long been associated with racing and the designers and engineers have on many occasions paid homage to the great race tracks of the world.
Be sure to check this month's Trivia Question in the sidebar to the right.

May Meeting Wrap-up

She may have the title "At Large" but she is not large in stature... but she is really large in energy. To keep up our new tradition of feeding the membership at the monthly meeting, Eileen Casey volunteered to cook the club a meal. And what a meal it was. Pasta with chicken and broccoli, pot roast and potatoes. If that wasn't enough there were cannolis and Marylou's coffee for dessert.

After the sumptuous repast, Terry brought the meeting to order. We gave Dennis Grant his prize for the correct Trivia answer. Joe Teamer went over the details of the Shakedown Cruise and Joe Amante went over the parade schedule. Jim Johnson presented the Treasurers report.

John Dwyer reminded us about the upcoming Pasta Hop hosted by Eastern Mass CC. This is an all club event and not to be missed. Tickets are $20/pp and can be purchased from John or Mal Smith.

Eileen also had the Club Store open with many new items. Be sure to come to next month to check out all the great new SSCC clothing items.

We were all overjoyed to see Alan Kemp who is cancer free and Carmine Carlucci who just had successful bypass surgery.

Mark your calendar for June 26, our next monthly meeting.

April's Trivia Question

April's Trivia Question
Of what significance is the number 6939 in Corvette history?

We have a WINNER!! Steve Bradford correctly answered that there were only 6939 ZR-1s produced from 1990 until 1995. For those who like statistics, 1990 saw 3049 built. In 1991 the number dropped to 2044. 1992 had only 502 ZR-1s built and the three years, 1993-1995 each had 448 ZR-1s hit the road. The last ZR-1, 1995 #448 sits in the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.
Steve won a beautiful ZR-1 poster for his correct answer. Be sure to check this month's Trivia Question in the sidebar to the right.

New Cruise Night Location

New Cruise Night Location
The big new of the evening was the change of venue for our summer cruise night. After three years at the Abington Walmart, we are moving to the Monponsett Inn. Walmart asked the club to donate to their charity. The amount they were looking for far exceeds the annual revenues of the club. An emergency officers meeting was called to try to find a venue that had adequate and safe parking, bathroom facilities, electrical power for the DJ and finally, access to food and drink. We considered many local business and restaurants. Joe Amante made contact with the Monponsett Inn and not only would they permit us to use their parking lot, but they welcomed us with open arms. The owner is a Vette owner!
Please join us on our kick-off night, May 12. We would like to fill the parking lot. And one of the great benefits of the Monponsett Inn is a great menu and beautiful setting. Not quite sure how to get there? Click
here to get a map.See you there!

Tax Run Wrap-up

Tax Run 2008, Sunday, April 13th was a great success
The Tax Run on April 13th to beautiful Halifax, MA and the Monponsett Inn was a big success. Our tour guide, Russ Erikson planned a leisurely cruise. We had a great turnout with almost 20 cars. It seemed that everyone was ready to get the Vettes out. Fortunately, the weather held off and no rain for the cruise. The Monponsett has a elaborate Sunday brunch including an Omelet station. No one left hungry. Thanks to Russ and Judy for a great outing.

What do you like to do?

What do you like to do?
We asked and here is what you said. About two thirds of you filled out the questionnaire. As you can see, Cruise Night was the most popular activity that we sponsor. What this does tell us is that we have preferences but some of you like to do all the activities we listed. One of the important lessons from this is we can't expect every member to participate in every activity. And it also tells us that we need to have a variety of activities to cover all of our interests.
